    Stanley Enters Automotive Aftermarket With Comprehensive Tool Offering

    INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., August 5, 2005 – Stanley (NYSE: SWK) announces today its entry into the automotive aftermarket with a comprehensive tool offering under the STANLEY® name, a brand synonymous with high-quality tools for the professional and consumer markets since before the first automobile was invented in the early twentieth century. The new line will be available at automotive retailers and other retailers wherever STANLEY® tools are sold.

    STANLEY® automotive aftermarket products include air tools, inflators, pressure washers, innovative ratchets, specialty tools, illumination tools and diverse assortments of tool sets. The tools are designed for the consumer marketplace but draw from the vast design expertise used to manufacture other professional grade mechanics tools from The Stanley Works such as Mac®, Proto® and Blackhawk® automotive tools. Stanley automotive mechanics tools meet or exceed all ANSI specifications and are backed by a lifetime warranty.

    “Stanley research and design teams utilize vast amounts of end-user feedback and research to identify the product features that are most important to our target consumer,” said Zach Bohn, global strategic business unit leader for Stanley automotive. “This approach allows us to redesign professional quality tools such as Mac® air tools with important elements for the do-it-yourself mechanic, including a 3-year limited warranty, one of the highest in the DIY industry. Our proprietary black chrome finish with high-visibility laser etching is just another example of the innovative Stanley offering. All of the tools in this line are designed with Stanley’s professional tool know-how but offered at price points that provide tremendous value for the consumer marketplace.”

Our research indicates consumers desire the availability of a strong and recognizable brand, innovative product and user-friendly features with affordable pricing. The STANLEY® products in this line meet and exceed these criteria.”

    Specific highlights of the new STANLEY® automotive aftermarket tools include:
    • STANLEY® mechanics tools – over 800 different innovate ratchets, wrenches, sockets and sets, including torque wrenches, impact sockets and adjustable wrenches
    • STANLEY® inflators – available in 12 volt, 120 volt and cordless/rechargeable models, preset pressure gauges, automatic shut-off, built-in 4-way emergency lights
    • STANLEY® pressure washers – electric powered, all-aluminum pumps, Stanley’s Total Stop System preventing overheating, high psi ratings, low price points
    • STANLEY® air tools – derived from professional Mac® models, air inlets that allow user to regulate intake into the tool, ergonomically molded grips
    • STANLEY® specialty tools – nine initial SKUs, all designed for specific automotive jobs including pry bar set, gasket scraper, razor scraper, magnetic pick-up tool and others
    • STANLEY® illumination tools – unique LED flashlights with patented circuitry which allow up to 200 hours of run time

    STANLEY® automotive aftermarket tools will be available in late 2005 at auto parts stores or other retailers where STANLEY® products are sold.
